October 14, 2026, 12:00 · Centrum Łowicka · ulica Łowicka 21
Guided tour of Katarzyny Derkacz-Gajewska's exhibition "Oxydacja – żywa materia" 14 October / Wednesday / 12.00 11 November / Wednesday / 17.00 Free admission "Oxydacja" is an original series of works on cardboard, in which Katarzyna Derkacz-Gajewska uses the oxidation processes of iron and copper. The artist treats rust and patina as painting matter, allowing time, chemical reactions and nature to co-create the image. The unusual, transformation-prone substrate is incised, modelled and coated with layers containing metal particles. The resulting works remain open to further transformation – corrosion does not mean destruction in them, but becomes a creative force and a record of passing time. Katarzyna Derkacz-Gajewska – visual artist and art educator, graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She received her diploma with distinction in 2003, and was also honoured with the Academy of Fine Arts Medal and a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. For over twenty years she has been creating, teaching and initiating artistic activities, combining her own practice with educational work. She is a finalist of the 20th edition of the Arte Laguna Prize in Venice.
