Genetic testing and cancer prevention The test allows assessing individual changes (mutations) in genes associated with an increased risk of developing certain cancers, primarily breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and pancreatic cancer. Detecting a mutation does not mean that the disease will certainly develop, but it indicates an increased risk of developing it during one's lifetime. The test result can help the doctor develop a more effective prevention plan, including more frequent check-ups, earlier initiation of diagnostics or implementation of measures to reduce the risk of developing the disease. In addition, the information obtained may also be important for family members, because some mutations are hereditary and may occur in relatives. Thanks to this, the test enables more informed care for one's health and taking preventive measures sufficiently early.
