Maria's Birthday
November 7, 2026, 11:00 · Muzeum Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie · ulica Freta 16
This year we invite you to look at Maria's legacy from a new perspective. The starting point will be her personal notes, notebooks and handwritten records. They reveal not only the scientist's everyday life, but also her way of thinking, curiosity about the world and constant readiness to ask questions.
PROGRAM:
11.00–18.00 | Who are you, Maria? | Off the beaten path. Bicycle travels of Maria and Piotr
- touring temporary exhibitions
12.00–16.00 | Experimental notebook
- open workshops; led by: Monika Stolarska, Julia Dworecka
We will create original notebooks inspired by the figure of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, using collage and scrapbooking techniques.
12.00–16.00 | The microcosm of paper and writing
open workshops; led by: Radosław Pytlarz, Weronika Gumowska
What secrets do paper, writing and print hide? We will check what can be discovered on a seemingly blank sheet of paper, and look into the world hidden at a microscale.
14.00–15.00 | Figure out Maria. Graphological secrets of notes
- led by: Karolina Gorzkowska and Sylwia Posiadała, with support from MMSC: Anna Mizikowska (no registration, but the number of places is limited to 30 people, first come first served)
What can Maria's handwritten notes say about her? In the company of graphologists, we will look at the Nobel laureate's notebooks and notes, wondering what they reveal about her way of working, character and everyday habits.
Maria's birthday falls on a Saturday, but the celebration will begin already on Friday, 6 November, with the laying of flowers at the Warsaw monuments to the museum's patron and an evening theatre event.
