Jazz and Swing in Paris....

Jazz Manouche developed in France in the 1930s and combines swing with traditional Roma music and European culture. A quartet of befriended musicians will present to you the madness of jazz energy and gypsy-style improvisation on two guitars, clarinet, and a voice that adds a slightly softer sound to the whole. The band consists of the incredibly dynamic guitarists Mariusz Pomian and Karol Szczubełek, also known as the Les Souvenirs duo, joined by clarinetist and multi-instrumentalist Sergei Gerke and vocalist Agnieszka Kledzik. A double bass will also appear on stage, taking over the rhythm section function from one of the guitars. The inspiration for the musicians' repertoire and style is the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, a Belgian of Roma origin creating in Paris, who after losing two fingers of his left hand in a fire developed his own virtuosic playing technique. The clarinet plays the role of a singing soloist in the band with a klezmer-Roma flavor, while the vocalist enchants the audience by combining Parisian chic of traditional French chanson with American swing.
