Exotic Physics of Black Holes

On January 21 at 19:00, astrophysicist and science communicator Kirill Maslennikov will give a lecture in Warsaw titled "Exotic Physics of Black Holes" 🌌 Black holes are among the most paradoxical objects in the Universe. Just a century ago they existed only on the pages of Einstein's equations, and today astronomers can not only see them but also hear them. We will discuss the most pressing questions of modern cosmology: What actually happens beyond the event horizon — the boundary beyond which everything, including light, disappears; Why time slows down near a black hole and space curves to the limit; What a singularity is; What temperatures black holes can have; What white holes and wormholes are; Kirill Maslennikov will invite you to look where no ray of light can reach — beyond the event horizon. To where the usual ideas about time and matter lose their meaning. At the lecture we will talk about how physicists went from theoretical models to real observations — from Einstein and Schwarzschild to the EHT telescope and LIGO detectors. We will discuss what contribution Stephen Hawking made to the study of black holes and why quantum gravity is considered the "Holy Grail" of modern physics, and black holes — the "laboratories of the Universe." After the lecture: - Q&A session — ask your boldest and most unexpected questions about physics in space! - Photo with the lecturer — preserve the memory of a fascinating scientific journey! 📸 🗓 January 21 at 19:00 📍 Stand up lokal About the speaker: Kirill Maslennikov — astrophysicist, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, host of the "Astronomer's Notes" segment on the QWERTY YouTube channel, laureate of the RAS prize in the field of science communication.
