Gan Eden" memorial concert

Performers: Paweł Szamburski, Albert Stensen, Bartek Nazaruk, Piotr Janiec and Radek Polakowski. "Gan Eden" is a special concept, brought to life in collaboration with Andrzej Rukowicz. The original music, initially supported by solo clarinet, over time develops into an ecstatic explosion of klezmer vitality. The entire composition is supported by an ensemble consisting of clarinet, trumpet, tuba, accordion and percussion. "Paweł Szamburski – clarinetist and composer associated with the Warsaw independent scene, cultural animator. Szamburski's music in general terms grows out of both archaic sacred and folk traditions as well as contemporary, original language of expression. Traditional songs and melodies in Szamburski's approach become part of a broader story: about being here and now, about attentively listening to what is not yet named. The clarinet does not play an illustrative role here – it leads, sometimes suspends, sometimes opens space for other associations. For years Szamburski has been moving between early music, tradition and modernity (among others in projects such as Bastarda), and his language is built precisely at the intersection of these orders. What is archaic is not a quotation for him, but a starting point. What is contemporary does not try to be forcefully new. Only their meeting produces an effect that is difficult to attribute to one time or place – a more personal statement than an interpretation." Before the concert, at 6:30 PM, the opening of the exhibition "Gan Eden – Paradise? The Medem Sanatorium in Miedzeszyn" will take place. The exhibition aims to bring closer the history of the sanatorium operating in Miedzeszyn in the years 1926–1942 and to remind of its young patients and staff. Its juxtaposition with the concert will allow looking at history not only through the prism of documents and photographs, but also through contemporary artistic interpretation. The event is organized as part of the celebrations of the anniversary of the opening of the Medem Sanatorium in Miedzeszyn and is meant to remind of the history of a place that remains an important part of local heritage.
