Boy from the Warsaw Uprising. Meeting with Bogdan Bartnikowski
October 21, 2026, 17:00 · Biblioteka Przystanek Książka · Biblioteka Przystanek Książka
An author’s evening devoted to a man who for many years has been preserving the memories of a generation marked by war. In his books, including “Dzieciństwo w pasiakach” and “Dni długie jak lata”, he describes events he experienced as a child. His stories are not only a personal testimony, but also an important voice in preserving the memory of the fate of the inhabitants of Warsaw during World War II.
A witness to history
Colonel Bogdan Bartnikowski, nom de guerre “Mały”, was born in 1932 in Warsaw. As a twelve-year-old boy he survived the Warsaw Uprising, and after the capitulation he was deported to the German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
After the war he tied his life to journalism and literature, and turned his own experiences into a testimony that for years has helped younger generations understand the fate of children during the occupation. His books are a valuable record of the memories and experiences of those who had to grow up during the war.
For many years he has also been involved in efforts to cultivate the memory of the soldiers of the Home Army as a member of the IV Obwód AK Ochota.
