Meluzyny from the Concrete Blocks. Fashion and Music in the 1980s

Meluzyna is a fantastic character, a mermaid, a water nymph, a symbol of all that is mysterious and unusual; an image of seductive femininity, as in the song by Małgorzata Ostrowska from the film "Podróże Pana Kleksa" directed by Krzysztof Gradowski in 1986. The title heroines of the exhibition Meluzyny z wielkiej płyty. Moda i muzyka w latach 80. are famous pop singers of the 1980s: Kora, Majka Jeżowska, Anna Jurksztowicz, Wanda Kwietniewska, Małgorzata Ostrowska and Izabela Trojanowska. Their careers exploded in an era of greyness. They seem to appear in the everyday reality of the PRL like inhabitants of a parallel, fairy-tale reality, where colors are more saturated and the rules of socialist physics are suspended. They are famous – they appear on album covers, on the front pages of newspapers, in music videos, they give concerts. How they look is just as important as the lyrics they sing. Their style is distinctive – and each of them creates her stage personality differently. - says Karolina Sulej, curator of the exhibition. The exhibition presented at DSH was created in collaboration with the Muzeum Polskiej Piosenki in Opole. The exhibition can be viewed from October 8, 2026 to February 21, 2027. Free admission.
