From tradition to fun – let's discover Katarzynki
Did you know where the gingerbreads called katarzynki came from?
What is the fortune-telling with a cherry branch about?
Although today few people remember them, Katarzynki – celebrated on 24 November – were the male equivalent of Andrzejki. It was then that bachelors foretold their future love and tried to read what awaited them in matters of the heart.
We invite you to a workshop where we will learn the history of this holiday, find out where it comes from and what traditions and fortune-telling were associated with it.
At the end, we will jointly make arts and crafts inspired by Katarzynki fortune-telling.
The workshop for children aged 6-10 will be led by Ms Aleksandra Tarka from the "Pracownia Etnograficzna" Association named after Witold Dynowski.
We invite you to the Library for Children and Youth no. 22 at ul. ks. J. Chrościckiego 2 on Friday 20 November 2026 at 17.00.
Admission free. Registration required: +48 (22) 863 89 61,
