Ashes and Diamond. The History of Poland in Music
Concert on the occasion of the National Independence Day
The Council and Board of the Włochy District of the Capital City of Warsaw invite the residents of Włochy to celebrate the National Independence Day together during the concert "Ashes and Diamond. The History of Poland in Music" – a moving tale of our country's history told through sound, word, and image.
It is an extraordinary musical journey leading through the most important moments of Polish history: from the struggle for independence, through the experiences of war and social transformation, to the songs that have become permanently inscribed in the collective memory of successive generations. The program of the concert on November 11 at the Okęcka Sala Widowiskowa combines patriotic songs, film music, and iconic Polish songs, creating an emotionally charged narrative about freedom, hope, memory, and community.
During the concert we will hear unforgettable compositions by, among others, Wojciech Kilar, Krzysztof Komeda, Waldemar Kazanecki, Jerzy Matuszkiewicz, Krzesimir Dębski, and Zbigniew Preisner, as well as songs that have become a symbol of Polish history and identity, such as "Dziwny jest ten świat," "Mury," "Biały krzyż," "Modlitwa o wschodzie słońca," and the title song "Popiół i diament."
The stage will feature soloists – Milena Lange, Judyta Nowak-Labuń, Michał Grobelny – and the musicians of the Warsaw Impressione Orchestra. The concert's narration will be led by the esteemed actress Laura Łącz, whose short commentaries and recitations will connect the successive musical images. The event will be accompanied by specially prepared visualizations emphasizing the atmosphere of the performed pieces.
"Ashes and Diamond. The History of Poland in Music" is a concert that connects generations and allows a fresh look at Poland's history through works that have shaped our sensitivity and memory over the years.
