In November, the library in Falenica will host writer and medievalist Anna Brzezińska, esteemed for her historical and fantasy literature. The author graduated in history from KUL and in medieval studies from Central European University in Budapest. She made her debut in 1998 with the short story "A kochał ją, że strach," for which she received the Janusz A. Zajdel Award. She also won it for the novel "Żmijowa harfa" and for the short story "Wody głębokie jak niebo." She is the author of, among others, the series about Babunia Jagódka ("Opowieści o Wilżyńskiej Dolinie" and "Wiedźma z Wilżyńskiej Doliny"), the monumental novels "Córki Wawelu," "Woda na sicie," and the essayistic "Zmierzch świata rycerzy," as well as many short story collections. Her work combines a rich historical background with elements of fantasy, and her books are part of the canon of contemporary Polish literature in this genre. Her latest book "Cierpliwe Genowefy, bezwstydne Magdaleny”. Przewodnik po średniowieczu zwykłych kobiet" is a portrait of women of flesh and blood—not the statuesque ones, but those remaining on the margins of history. Anna Brzezińska is also a regular columnist for "Ale Historia," a supplement of "Gazeta Wyborcza," and also publishes in "Polityka" and "Tygodnik Powszechny." The author evening will be hosted by Filip Kekusz. The event is accessible to people with mobility disabilities. Admission is free. The project is funded by the Dzielnica Wawer of the Capital City of Warsaw.
