Warsaw Pickleball League - come and discover the sport that connects generations
October 25, 2026, 10:00
The event is a perfect opportunity to see this discipline live, learn its rules and find out why pickleball attracts so many new enthusiasts.
What exactly is pickleball?
Imagine a sport that combines the dynamics of tennis, the reaction speed known from table tennis and the social character of badminton. Add to that a small court, a light paddle and a plastic ball with holes. That's exactly what pickleball looks like!
Although in Poland it is still a relatively new discipline, in the United States it has already gained enormous popularity, and its fans are growing all over the world.
One of the greatest advantages of pickleball is its ease of learning. You don't need years of training or prior experience in racket sports to start playing. The basic rules can be learned in a dozen or so minutes, and the first rally is often enough to feel the joy of competition.
Pickleball is a sport for young people, adults and seniors. You can play recreationally, treating it as an opportunity to meet friends, but also train regularly and take part in sports competitions.
How do you play pickleball?
The game takes place on a rectangular court measuring 6.10 × 13.41 m, which is much smaller than a traditional tennis court. A low net runs through the middle, and players hit a special perforated ball with light, rigid paddles.
Pickleball can be played singles, but doubles is especially popular - two players against two.
The rules are relatively simple:
• The serve is made from below, diagonally across the court.
• After the serve, the ball must bounce on the receiver's side, and then also on the server's side. Only after that can the ball be hit out of the air.
• Near the net there is a special zone called the kitchen, where you cannot hit the ball out of the air.
• In the traditional scoring system, points are scored by the serving team, and a set is most often played to 11 points, with a lead of at least two.
A smaller court means shorter distances to cover, and the specific nature of the ball favors controlled rallies. Thanks to this, pickleball is also accessible to people who have not previously practiced sports regularly. This does not mean, however, that it lacks excitement! At a higher level, the game can be extremely fast, requiring reflexes, precision and good cooperation with a partner.
Why is it worth trying pickleball?
First of all, because it gives a lot of satisfaction from the very first training session. In many sports, long learning of technique is needed before you can start real play. In pickleball, the first rallies are possible almost immediately.
It is also an excellent way to spend free time actively. The game engages the whole body, develops motor coordination, reflexes and concentration, and at the same time allows you to improve your fitness in a pleasant, social atmosphere.
The social aspect is also important. Pickleball encourages meeting new people. Because it is often played in pairs, it naturally encourages cooperation, conversation and building relationships. On one court, parents with adult children, friends, neighbors or people representing different generations can meet. It is not without reason that pickleball is sometimes called a sport that connects people.
