10:00 Edyta Krakowiak – “The Smallest Boat and the Biggest Water, or My Solo Journey Across the Atlantic in Several Acts” Edyta Krakowiak will talk about what it is like to be alone in the middle of the Atlantic, when there is nothing around but water, sky and your own thoughts. It is a story about the fact that for great things in life you sometimes have to wait very patiently. Patience is a virtue that we learn over years. The ocean teaches it most brutally, but also most beautifully, and that is exactly what this story is about—not one and not even two record-small plywood boats and the biggest water we have. It is a tale about a passion for sailing, about the fact that each of us can cross our own Atlantic. 11:45 prof. Bohdan Szklarski – “From Washington to Musk. Leadership in America—Political, Economic and Cultural” How has leadership in the United States changed over more than two centuries, and who shaped the directions of America’s development? Prof. Szklarski’s lecture will be a story about political, economic and cultural leadership from George Washington, symbolizing the beginnings of American statehood, to, among others, Elon Musk, representing a new type of leader in the era of new technologies. We will look at people who not only responded to the changes taking place but often initiated them themselves and gave them direction. Is there a common denominator between the leadership of presidents, entrepreneurs and technological visionaries? How have the concepts of power, authority and influence changed in American society? The lecture will be an opportunity to reflect on how the American model of leadership shaped the past and how it influences the future of the United States. We remind you that this is the last moment to join the group of WUU Listeners.
