Aveciątka and an award for “Pasja”
The AVE Choir, which has been active continuously for 87 years, is still growing. It already numbers over 80 people – young people and adults – and carries out large oratorio programs and international projects. Last year it performed at the Philharmonic in Kaunas.
For two years, a children's formation of the ensemble has also been operating under the expert eye of Elżbieta Drużbińska. These are the Aveciątka, fifty of the youngest singers aged 6-13.
The Aveciątka will perform the part of the crowd condemning Jesus to death, while the roles of the Evangelist and Jesus will be taken by artists of the Polish Royal Opera: tenor Paweł Piękoś and baritone Bogdan Śliwa. The role of Pilate, Judas and Peter will be performed by a very talented soloist of the AVE choir, 17-year-old Paweł Milewski, who despite his young age impresses with a very mature sound. The singers will be accompanied by Philharmonic musicians on violin, viola, cello, double bass, oboe, English horn and organ, and the whole will be conducted by conductor Barbara Hijewska.
For the performance of “Pasja,” the Aveciątka received the Golden Sunflower – the main award in the music category of the “Słoneczniki” competition for the most developmental initiatives for children. It was recognized that the ensemble prepared the difficult choral part very professionally and performed it with professional instrumentalists.
Władysław of Gielniów and Furmanik for female and mixed voices
But “Pasja” is not everything the AVE musicians have prepared. In the first part of the concert, one will be able to hear little-known Passion songs by Polish composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, led by works by Prof. Józef Furmanik, an outstanding though unjustly forgotten conductor, composer and organist who, before World War II, created a huge musical society at St. Alexander's Church. Although they were created by amateurs, every Sunday they performed great oratorio works by the greatest masters in the church at Plac Trzech Krzyży, and their level matched that of philharmonic musicians.
There will also be works by Blessed Władysław of Gielniów, patron of the church in Ursynów and patron of Warsaw, who is also one of the best Old Polish poets and musicians. He created magnificent cycles of religious works, but also had extraordinary mystical experiences.
The Passion songs will be performed by the mixed and female AVE choir. – And all of it also in new instrumental arrangements by Jerzy Cembrzyński, a Grammy laureate and resident of Ursynów, with whom we have been cooperating very fruitfully for many years – adds Włodkowski.
