(Sulejówek) Know the rules – break the rules! Modern Ikebana
October 28, 2026, 11:00
The end of the year is sometimes a time for summaries and a melancholic look at the world. We long for summer and its energy, while the cultures of the Far East see calm and beauty in this natural rhythm of autumnal passing.
Traditionally, they find expression in seasonal flower compositions created according to the principles of ikebana (the word means "to give life to a cut flower"). In the Land of the Rising Sun there are over 300 schools teaching and developing this typically Japanese art. Some have restrictive rules for composing and selecting plants, others approach flower arranging in a modern and sculptural way. At our workshop we will look at the hundred-year-old Sogetsu school from Tokyo, whose main principle is that "anything can be your flower."
At the meeting you will learn about three styles of ikebana and face the challenge of creating your own autumn composition from non-obvious and surprising elements. Teamwork and lots of good fun await you!
